Jan Grarup graduated from the Journalism College in Aarhus. For several decades, he has traveled around the world many times to cover various wars, conflicts and humanitarian disasters. For Jan Grarup, photojournalism is the tool that works best and most effectively when the harsh and dramatic stories need to be told and communicated. Jan Grarup has been honored with many prestigious awards and nominations, including no less than five times Press Photographer of the Year, five times Photo of the Year, two nominations for the W. Eugene Smith Foundation for Humanistic Photography, as many as eight World Press Photography Awards, a special award from Leica Oskar Barnack Award as well as many other awards from Pictures of the Year International and the National Press Photographers Association. He has exhibited four times at VISA POUR L'IMAGE and won the VISA D'OR for his coverage of Darfur's humanitarian crisis. In 2022, he won the SONY World Photo Award among 340,000 submitted images for his documentation of the forgotten crisis in Colombia. In other words, this is an absolute master photographer with a unique catalog of images and stories from the world's focal points. Jan Grarup has also written a number of books, including "Hvor Jernkorsene Gror" and "And Then There Was Silence", which also both form the framework for some of his lectures. In 2019, Boris Bertram made the highly acclaimed documentary "Krigsfotografen" about Jan Grarup.
