In this lecture, Jan Grarup takes us into the book: "And then there was silence". The book is a photographic monument to Jan's decades-long work as a photographer in some of the world's absolute crisis zones. The lecture is highly personal and absolutely current, and Jan gives the audience a rare insight into the many hours of work that preceded the book. How he has photographed, selected and created aesthetics in a book that shows some of the worst sides of the world, but at the same time also contains glimpses of hope and some of the most formidable human qualities such as survival, care and love. The 4 kg. heavy crowdfunded book, has become both dark, thought-provoking, opens up for reflection, and carries a beauty. We believe this Jan Grarup lecture will also do that.
