Malena and Jessica are the founders behind the company Wholi (formerly Dare to Eat), which aims to make Danes more knowledgeable about edible insects via knowledge dissemination and introduction of innovative products with edible insects. Wholi was born when entrepreneurs Malena and Jessica met. They are both passionate about creating attractive and sustainable solutions to our global climate and food problems. Malena has been bitten by edible insects since 2009, when she was served grasshoppers for dinner by her local host family as a volunteer in Tanzania. This has resulted in Malena focusing her studies on edible insects with a focus on nutrition, climate and gastronomic potential at KU Science and Cornell University. With 6 years of research into the backpack in e.g. India, Tanzania and Kenya, Malena has a completely unique knowledge and understanding of why we should eat insects and what global effect it can have in the long term. Jessica has a background in business and international development from CBS and the University of Sussex, where she specializes in creating sustainable business initiatives to solve global problems. Jessica has experience in bridging public and private initiatives through her work at the UN and is a former co-founder of the award-winning social startup Carcel, which gives women in prison in developing countries the opportunity for a new start free of crime. Together, Malena and Jessica are a strong team who have taken Denmark by storm with their innovative insect snacks in a short time. The lecture offers an inspiring insight into sustainable entrepreneurship, innovative foods and exciting tastings.
