Claire Nouvian

Goldman Prize Winner in 2018

Om Claire Nouvian

Claire Nouvian is a writer and environmentalist. She has dedicated her career to protecting the vulnerable ocean. In 2018, she won the Goldman Prize, which is equivalent to the Nobel Prize in ecology and sustainability. It was wonder that drew her to the depths of the sea; but when she became aware of the horrible practices that took place in deep sea fishing and how this was done, this immediately became her focus. Nouvian is determined to stop deep-sea fishing, and is also committed to this on the political front. In 2004 she founded the Paris and Hong Kong based non-profit organization BLOOM. Previously, Nouvian worked in TV production and journalism, where she specialized in wildlife and scientific documentaries. While filming around the world, she wrote her debut book "The Deep", and an exhibition of the same name opened in 2007 at the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris. In addition to this, Nouvian teaches deep-sea fishing and sustainable development communication strategies at several universities worldwide. In April 2018, she became the second French person ever to receive the prestigious Goldman Prize, which is the finest award one can receive in the field of sustainability and which comes with a $200,000 grant. Nouvian has lived in several different countries and speaks six languages.
